The Layered Blossom builds on basic stitches to make a fuller, dimensional flower: small scalloped front petals sit over a ring of larger back petals, worked into the front and back loops of the same round. Includes a single-layer mini blossom, a double-sided leaf, finishing for clips and brooches, and troubleshooting.

  • Two-layer blossom plus a quick mini variation
  • Round-by-round instructions with stitch counts
  • Front and back loop technique explained step by step
  • Double-sided leaf pattern
  • Finishing, uses, and troubleshooting

Also included in the Easy Crochet Bundle ($14.99 for all five).

Materials

  • Worsted-weight (weight 4) cotton or cotton blend in three colors: A (center) about 5 yd (4.5 m), B (petals) about 15 yd (14 m), C (leaves, optional) about 6 yd (5.5 m) per leaf
  • 4 mm (US G-6) crochet hook
  • Tapestry needle and scissors
  • Optional: hair clip, brooch pin back, or felt circle for backing

Gauge is not important; aim for firm, even stitches so the petals hold their shape. Size depends on yarn and tension.

Why front and back loops?

Every stitch has two loops on top. In this pattern, Round 3 uses only the front loops of Round 2 to make the front petals. That leaves the back loops free, so Round 4 can be worked into them behind the front petals. Two layers of petals grow from one round.

Joining a new color

Make a slip knot with the new color and place it on your hook. Insert the hook into the stitch indicated, yarn over, and pull through the stitch and the loop on the hook (a sl st). Hold the tails against the back of the work.

How is this different from the free flower on the blog?

The free pattern is a single-layer, five-petal flower. This pattern adds a two-color center, a second layer of larger petals using front and back loops, a double-sided leaf, a mini variation, and full finishing guidance.

Can I sell flowers I make from this pattern?
